In the ZOO, but wild by woxys In the ZOO, but wild by woxys
As some people want me to post more various species of animals and other people critize me for posting ZOO photos, I post a shot of Common Blackbird (Turdus merula, kos cerny, ♂), common Czech bird today. The photo was taken in ZOO Olomouc, but this wild bird was not part of the animal collection :)

Great shot!!
As to Zoo shots versus wild shots - both have their advantages and drawbacks, but in my opinion, there is no right or wrong to it - it's just a matter of personal choice.  Although I do not usually take zoo shots, I highly appreciate the work of those talented photographers like you that do.  Keep up the good work!:) (Smile)

haha now you're just being tricky. :D what better way to have a picture of both, in the zoo but not of it. I like it (haha sorry i'm really tired and so that probably sounded weird.)

Pfff, those little birds are so funny. I've only ever seen them twice, and both times they were all puffed up and making a funny face at me.
Lovely picture though, It's really cute!

Oh no, they certainly don't live where I'm from. Well, on my side of the country anyway, it was on the west coast where I saw them.
Either way, it's an adorable little bird. I really like the picture

we feed the birds, but although many blackbirds live here (I mean really around our house, there are so many of them!), only one female comes to the feeder. Maybe the feeder is too high, in the third floor :( they love to find food on the land...

Personally, I'd love it if all you posted were wolf and fox photos! :D  But you shouldn't be bothered by what others tell you or criticize you for - post what you want to post! The way I see it, if people don't like something, they very easily have the choice to not look at it or not comment on it!

Anyhow, this is a beautiful photo! All the colors around the bird compliment it nicely! Your blackbirds have much more colorful beaks than the blackbirds we have here in the U.S.

It is a male blackbird, they have orange beaks :D female is brown and also her beak is dark :D as usual, female birds are dark to be almost invisible :D

.... though I can't see why people would criticize you for posting zoo pics. The animals are different, beautiful, and the backrounds always look natural. What else could they ask for?

well, they think that ZOOs are cruel and animals suffer there (it is NOT true!) and that I support it. I even got very vulgar comments :/

I think it's not totally true (that Zoos are good). But these days it becomes better and better. As animals get big enough (of course never comparable with freedom) places to life, which are nicely decorated, they get cared for properly and a lot of zoos keep alive what mankind destroys. (if wanted or not... is another theme... at least it's unneeded) A lot of animals won't exist anymore without zoos.
I think Zoos and anything about that, gives a large area to discuss about.

I like to go to the zoo and watch the animals... animals which once lived also here in Germany, but also others.

But there's always another side of anything. Sometimes I hear storys about zoos that make me sad. But I think still very good about zoos and projects to save endangered animals.

I just came across and can't but say some words about it :)

I really like you pictures, and I feel like I have to take my little fellow pencil and draw some x) but not yet, I think I'll ask you before, if it's okay for you

Random: I'll go and visit the Zoo in Leipzig on Friday q:

the question is - would animals prefer freedom or comfortable life in safety? And my opinion is, that they would prefer safety :)

it is like: would YOU prefer a life in a never ending civil war, when you can be killed all the time and when you have to fight for life 24 hours a day... or would you prefer hotel Hilton? :) I would prefer hotel Hilton, because a feeling that when I go sleep, I have 99% chance to wake up alive, is much more valuable for me, that some idea of freedom :)

That's my opinion :D but I respect yours :D

Oh, so many people want me to visit that ZOO! :D have fun there ;)

I'm not sure if animals think like that.

Of course Hotel Hilton sound nice all the day, but what do you think, won't you get bored soon just by doing nothing all day? You don't have to care for nothing, no need to work or "search" for food.

I can understand your opinion and I also respect it :D
However the crow I raised choose freedom. I miss it, but I respect also that decision.

It's really worth a visit =)

I would prefer having my own territory in hotel Hilton to everyday's fear, that somebody will kill me, rape me or torture me in never ending civil war ;D living in the wild is not romantic or wonderful, as many people think... I would never want to be a free animal, I would totally prefer some modern ZOO with nice big exhibit, which would provide me my own territory, perfect food, health care and partner - and also a chance, that my cubs survive :D

I have heard about it, but it is a big far from me and as long as I know, it does not keep any super species, which would not have been kept in Czech ZOOs... :D maybe Baical seal!

Sorry for my English, I am somehow ill and I can not concentrate, my ENglish is usually better :(

But think about, you have a super luxus room in Hilton... however you're not allowed to go out. You have fresh air, somebody cares about you, a nice partner, enough food and anything... but the doors are locked forever. Won't you miss it to walk with the people outside? If you're born in this room, I think it's different, as you don't know how it is, to fly with the bird over the sky.
I think, you'll mostly decide for what you're used to, as the animals in freedom will never miss the comfort in a Zoo, as they just don't know it, as well as Zoo animals won't miss the world behind the exhibit for the same reason.

For the Baikal seals I could give you a yes :whisper: at least it's what they say on their website, I'm not that educated to tell different kinds of seals apart ;)
[link] --> not really good photo... but...however it's maybe also a fur seal, I'm not sure as they seem to have both, I'll tell you more when I'm back from there ^-^

I think animals like Komodowaran, Quolls (at the moment not to shown as they have cubs ~ since 35 years first young Quolls in an European zoo) and I think it always depends on the watcher what is special and what not.

I have no complaints about your English at all. Mine I assume could be better too :)

it is a fur seal, because seals do not have visible ears and they can not stand on their flips :D but nice photo! :aww:

Honestly, if I travel a lot to see some animals, those are dolphins, who attract me :aww: wow, I do not know Quoll! Interesting animal

Sheesh, talk about mis-informed close eyed people. What ever happened to the phrase "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?" If they're rude enough to leave mean comments, you shouldn't bother trying to do things that would make them happy.

*sigh* I guess that's the downside of being on Da, once you get popular, you get pressured to do this or that by all your fans. Though, with you it seems like you stick with what you love, yet you're flexible enough to accomidate other people's opinions as well :D .
