Do you mind, when ZOO photos show really obvious captivity (bars, people, fence in the background, concrete floor, glass reflections)?

Well, I think that if fences and the likes can be avoided, it should be. However, it can add to the picture if is in the right way. But that is often rare and therfore I prefer without the fence. But I'm sure that you can take some great pictures even with fences, woxy :D

I'm 8% of the population. That is, I feel-think that, at least some of the photos, here and there, should remind people of the truth of where these animals are; that, they have been stolen from the wild (if indeed they have.. though I find that hard to believe, when looking at your photos!) I mean if their birthright to be free has truly been stolen. Human society/civilisation is accountable for that and we are responsible for how our future generations attitudes will be to things like this! But I love your photos and they are all the more beautiful because they don't show bars, etc. When I look at them I naturally can't help imagining that the wild species of animals ARE free and in their naturally wild and left alone state in their (not ours unless we live in them day in day out) natural forests. And that's a fact.

thank you for nice words and also for your opinion  I think that nowadays, ZOOs existence is important mostly for ANIMALS, althought it can sounds cynicaly :( people, especially kids, need such contact with animals to learn and to make some bound. TV, books and photos are not enough to build some love relation :(

To have no need for ZOOs, we need ideal world :(

By the way, I can not speak about foreign ZOOs, but the Czech ones are wonderful and they are great help for animals, breeding also very endangered species!

Yes, I feel/think, what we NEED here and now IS an ideal world! And so, it's about time we started creating one, don't you feel & think?! Yes, for there exists some people who are so very annoying, that nothing ever seems to be ENOUGH for them! Like all the brutes, for example! What do we do with them 'that' don't build love relations no matter what love relation material, is provided for them.?!! Send them "Bruno"s by the dozen... or WHAT!?! I really want to know what you feel-think about this. I mean, Hunter S. Thompson's - "Exterminate all the brutes!" sounds awfully wonderful (right now to me); a good and practical-sounding idea, is what I mean! How does it sound to you, at this point in your life? Could it be all that's NEEDED to create an ideal world for us (all us non-brutes I mean) and/or all the still very beautiful wild life, trees and forest spirits!? What do you SEE when you look at the world, for God's sake?! I, for one, could easily join forces with anyone else who's well and truly fed up (AND SO READY) to clean up the trash (borrowing here, from TV-series "Dexter" and what's more, do it with a happy smile on my face! :) And nothing else.. For I hate animal cruelty.. like I hate child abuse and/or the control of women etc. (through threats and violence etc.) yeah, exploitation and rape! It's a sick and damaged world; full of ugly, useless pieces of trash.. As far as the eye can see. And animals in zoos (I'm feeling and thinking about the 'Happy family?' pic of one wolf mother having killed the children of the other and the other wolf mother just accepting 'that' and 'loving' the other's children.. like her own? Seems hard to believe.. And she was once alpha, do you say?). Anyway, I'm asking you.. Are zoos really justified, even in an imperfect world? Is humanity justified in it's capturing and imprisoning of everything beautiful, soulful, free and wild.. in it's keeping animals in cages in Labs (for painful and no doubt terrifying experimentation/torture), in it's domestication and artificial insemination of once wild and free animals/spirits (who no longer have any will or desire to breed) in Factory Farms (and the all too human deceit, sly and self-deluding trick of calling these once wild and free animals 'livestock') while the workers in Factory Farms and Abattoirs continue to be underpaid and overworked, so that they beat the already fear-stricken and suffering animals (even if their nature, isn't evil and sadistic!) And the pet and fur industries, etc. are they justifiable too?!!? I DON'T feel or think so! NOT AT ALL! And so, although I understand what you're saying (and am already, well and truly a fan of both Gerald Durrell and Sir David Attenborough's work, both for Nature conservation and the cause of animals everywhere), I'm not so naive, to sit back, nod and just relax at all you say! Zoos are not enough to reach all the people and/or change our world into a more fair, truly beautiful, and so livable one (for all and any living being.. No matter what package life and sentient consciousness comes in). No, I am NOT that naive! Are you? What can we do to save and protect what's left of IT (in us and just as importantly beyond us also)?!?! I'm ready to listen to anyone 'round about now! And now.. and NOW.... Love, light and peace? I mean.. C'mon!!! I do NOT understand.. what some people would call peace on earth!!!!!!!

Okay, they (zoos, prisons for animals and not criminals, remember?!?? Like the cheetah who saw a dog run free and thought why can't we? ..zoo animals, IS NOT a criminal.) And so I was/am wrong about it all not being justifiable. :( But I just like my own freedom.. too much.. I guess! Or else, I'm addicted to the very idea of being free while not being so.. perhaps? Nevertheless, I don't like my space and freedom to move endlessly about in, in any direction I like, being impinged upon. So I am longing for this world to catch up, to catch on fire, as it were... to be consumed in it's own pitiable ashes and dust and for everything beautiful, lovable (a.k.a. innocuous and/or funny in a light way) to rise out of the ashes like a Phoenix. Transcend the fire that burns up the superficial only, like protesting Buddhist monks or members of the Falun Gong? I do not know. This world is confusing, doesn't make sense to me. Like the Hurricane and O.J. or the height of anti-whaling rebels being called 'Sea Shepherds' rather than 'Sea Wolves'. I mean, 'shepherd' isn't a very rebellious sounding name, is it? Maybe my pseudo-esque guru Unca is/was right, and this world is all an illusion. So where does that leave me and/or you? The Buddha, in 'Monkey Magic' also says pain is illusion. And suffering only exists in our imagination. So is there a you or not? What I mean is, is my Unca Gilbo right about there not being a you, as well?!?! I like to think not. Teh cat in me pounces on a mouse and says "I think NOT." But at least, I am a vegetarian cat and so will not eat the mouse up. ;)

I don't think animals should be kept in captivity that's not adequate for them (not big enough, not the right kind of environment etc.) but if they are kept in one adequate enough, then why should the photos not show the truth? They're not as pretty, but I certainly don't mind it.

Some times the obvious signs that they are in captivity can be over powering (meaning it can take from the subject the animal). Other times it can help the photo, it can have a kind of story behind it that is not spoken or writen but in the photo itself. That is my opinion, you may think what you wish.
