ZOO Prague flood news + baby wolves - 1st PHOTOS!

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 9, 2013, 2:00 PM

Hello pals!

the kiriban has been caught - I ask the winner for patience, because I will the most likely give a feature in next days

Soooo, what is new about ZOO Prague, floods and "deliver Woxys to ZOO Prague" project?

The ZOO was indeed damaged a lot, but as the level of water gets lower and lower, they find out the damage might be less severe than they thought. At first they made estimation of 160 000 000 Czech crowns, now they think it might be "only" 100 000 000 Czech crowns. The water level was lower than in 2002 and also it was "steady", while in 2002, there was a strong stream comming through whole the ZOO, damaging it. Now the reconstruction might be "easier" than in 2002...

Project "Deliver Woxys"...
At first, let me thank you. You are AWESOME!!!!!
The "deliver Woxys to ZOO Prague" project got enough money to a) get me to the ZOO, b) let me buy some bottles of desinfection and a broom, c) let me tranfer the rest of the money to the "help ZOO Prague after flood" bank account. Than you so much, pals, your help is so needed!

I know this project is based on trust a lot, that's why I am really touched and happy that you really sent some money to me, trusting that I will really use them to help the ZOO. It is... just incredible
I care about your trust a lot, I want to prove I really used those money to travel to the ZOO and to help there.

So, to prove I really went to the ZOO and helped, I:

I will take a photo (prinscreen) of my ticket to Prague and back.
I will take a photo of a bill for desinfection and a broom (or something like this)
I will put some simple "paper" stick on the broom and bottles of desinfection, which will say something like "this has been donated by community of DeviantART".
I will put some cell-phone photos which would document the ZOO cleaning itself!
I will collect and take a photo (heh, if I do not automatically throw them away ) of the public transport tickets - I will need to pay almost 120 Czech crowns a day to get to the ZOO and back  I hope it will be only 60, because my relatives might get me to the tube and back every day. It would save the money and I would donate them to the ZOO (of course!!!)
I will take a printscreen of the "tranfer" of the money to the bank account of the ZOO.

It should make whole my activity transparent, I hope
Once more, thank you!

You know what, it was kind of funny - the ZOO got 10 000 volunteers! :faint:
I was afraid they would not want me to get to Prague - it made me pretty nervous, because I was all like "omg, my watchers gave me money and finally I would not be allowed to go to help? That would be bad!"
But no :D
I filled in a registration form (yeah, you need to do that to be chosen as a volunteer :D) and I got a phone from the ZOO. I got it into the group of volunteers and I will start cleaning on Wednesday, finishing on Saturday!

Other not that funny thing: the meterologists announced other heavy rains and possible danger of fast and strong floods. So the Prague city did not even remove the anti-flood barriers, awaiting other wave of high water. This time I will be in the city, so... it might be very adventurous................ :-) I am not very good at swimming, er.

I have a bit black  conscience. I know ZOO Prague is so famous and well-known that they will always have enough volunteers. So I should stand and help for example some village or so, which is not in media all the time and therefore there are not hundreds of people willing to come and help.
But at the same time... I am a ZOO photographer and I can only offer my hands to help - the money goes from my watchers, who like ZOO photos as well, so they want to help the ZOO.
So I think that helping ZOO Prague is better than no helping at all...
To be honest, if I had my own money, I would donate it to some village, not to the ZOO.
But I have just my hands, so I offer my physical help... and I can afford to really give it only through the donation of my kind watchers.
I do not do it to be "IN", but at the same time, I still feel guilty.
Am I normal..............................................................................?

Those who watch me for years know, that my first photos of baby wolves always have very low quality - puppies stay close to the burrow which is too far from my camera and it is also under the trees, so the place is too dark. So yeah, bad photos, I hope to get to the ZOO in a week again, taking better shots for you. And to be honest, I am very worried about our pack. I know wolves lose winter fur every spring and they look ill when they are weaning, but this year... I am afraid there might be some serious issue... :( I am very worried about it.

How many arctic wolves are there? With all the puppies being born every year? Do they keep them all or they are given/traded to other zoos?

I think it's perfectly normal! If it's any help, I'd be happy for you to use my donation for helping a village instead - but that may just complicate things, so sticking with using it for the zoo is good too :).

Hope all goes well on your visits!

I believe that it's normal for people to want to help those (or those things) who they know... Like in your case, the Zoo. And by the way, as your watcher I wouldn't mind if you helped small villagers ^^ it is your decision, and I understand that everyone needs help. But remember, you can't do everything alone so don't feel guilty for not helping the other villages. Do what you can.

I'll answer your question. I don't care if you're not "normal". I think you're perfect no matter what... and I love you :huggle:

You are a fantastic individual, you have no need to worry about such things. That you are so willing to help in this way is inspiring and honorable, in my opinion. Hold your head high!
