Tiger drama in local ZOO + animals - PHOTOS

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 22, 2012, 10:48 AM

Hi people!

Once more sorry for low activity. Thesis, thesis. Thesis. Thesis. DIES.

Today a white tiger in Czech ZOO Liberec attacked a young guy (he was on practise, not a visitor), who was saved thanks to bravery of two female keepers who hit the cat with some bucket to get his attention. The tiger escaped from the exhibit, so three people, all of them injured by the tiger, stayed inside the cage. The tiger was shot with some drugs and went limp. Fortunately, this whole accident seems to have a happy end, injuries are not severe and the tiger has not been harmed. Just wow, huh... Drama!

Finally a feature for Kiriban winner and then some animal photos. Please keep your fingers crossed for me, so I can finish my thesis soon. Thank you!

Glad to hear that no one got hurt. Also, glad to know the Tiger did not get harmed either.

I got to say, you guys handle your animals a lot of better than we would her in the US some times.

I think in all profi ZOOs, the staff is doing the best. I am happy that in this case, people and also the animal were finally ok - but I think if the tiger would be about attacking some more peope, they would shoot him :( but I would have to agree with that because although I love animals, staff must always prefer protection of humans to protection of dangerous animal...

But as I saw, I am really grateful for this happy end :D

We do the same here but sadly some of our zoo are pretty under budget or over due for a make over. The Potter Park we have here in Michigan, last time I visit them, most of exhibit were pretty small.:(

I was surprised that American ZOOs do not seem better than local ones :(

Well it's because our economy is doing so badly up to the point that some zoos have no choice but to close down and put the animals in better places.

Good thing it ended happily. Some years back in my town, a tiger got shot for getting out of its cage. My dad had heard it on the radio and picked me and my brother up from school because apparently the tiger was outside the zoo. Turned out it was not. And it was so late that there weren't even any visitors. But apparently tit would be too dangerous to try and tranq it because that would make it upset and attack... someone. (Who?) It was shot and killed.
Did I mention that it was the local petting zoo? Yes. The petting zoo wanted to get a couple of tigers. Now, it only has one. And it sure did lose lots of visitors by choosing to kill that escaped tiger.

Good that the people got away, and good that the tiger wasn't shot for just being a tiger. Standard procedure seems to be "call in the police, police has no clue about animals, police shoot animal repeatedly". o.o

they called the police too and even firefighters to prevent the tiger from escaping the ZOO. Fortunately, the tiger stayed close to the pavilion, it was trying to attack the lions through the fence :XD: that's why injured people could stay in relative safety of HIS cage and that's why a vet could shot him with drugs

He is ok, I saw footage of him later, he was back in his enclosure :D

Love the photos. Here in the States a little boy fell into the African Wild Dog exhibit and the pack attacked him.The keepers got all but the alpha male off of him so they shot and killed him.The boy died when the dogs attacked.Defiantly not a happy ending.

Well, at least you were far from the danger. I hope both the people and the tiger will be okay - people tend to overreact when it comes to animal violence, and it would be a shame if the tiger was killed for it :\

Finger double crossed for you dear! Go on!

phew, that was close! Happy both humans and tiger are ok. The guy will have a pretty good story to tell girls at home :giggle:

It's a chamois in that photo, isn't it? I've seen them in the wild, on the mountains. They're beautiful, jumping around, fighting for females in the right season, and they have the cutest lambs ^^

Something similar to that happened in some german zoo a while ago, too. An experienced zoo keeper was killed by a tiger while cleaning the enclosure, because some barriers weren't closed properly. And then? The zoo director himself shot the tiger "with a heavy heart". Seriously, as if that would have been really necessary. People can be so stupid. So a thumb up for your local zoo that they just narcotised the tiger.

Im glad to hear that no one got seriously injured, and that the tiger was allowed to also keep its life, i think its horrible when big cats are put down because of attacks in zoo's and reserves ect, they cant help that they are not little domestic kitties!

Good luck!!!

Wow. It is rare for animals who attack humans in exhibits to be left alive.
I am glad it had a happy ending.

What's that animal in the second picture (of yours, not the kiriban ones)? It looks a tiny bit like a llama but it's much too small....

sounds like a drama happened in germany as well.
a female keeper went into the cage of the tigers but the "gate valve" wasn't closed.
So the tiger went in and attacked the keeper. she died.

happened a few months ago. 1 or 2.
really sad..:/

Tss...at least this tiger survived it.We had an accident like that in Germany not to long ago. A 40 years old female was cleaning the tigers cage, some idiot forgot to close the door that seperated the tiger from the lady,so the tiger attacked. The female died and they shot the tiger too -.-

It's okay, that thesis is very important right now. You'll be fine :)
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

And wow that is some drama! Now that I know that no one (including the tiger) was not severely injured, and thankfully it was not severe, I would like to know how the tiger escaped the enclosure.

I love white tigers. They look so majestic and beautiful. The cubs are also adorable.

I hope people don't put too much blame on everything and just fix any problems with either the staff or the enclosure itself to keep everyone safe. It looks like an accident.

Ah. I thought he was just some random guy who got in the enclosure :/ Still, people need to be so careful with any wild animal. That's such a careless thing to do! But it's good that they're all doing alright :)

definitely! It was probably one woman's fault, but she got back, slapping the tiger, risking her own life to prevent her coleagues from injury... but still, it was a big mistake :/
