Hello pals,

sorry for kiriban winner, you will be featured soon, I did not forget you  I just write some sad journals and my mood is far from nice, so this is not the best time for kiriban.
By the way, there is a new one: send me a printscreen of 1 022 222 pageviews and you will win a feature (no feature for porn or animal cruelty, ok).

Well, I have news about wolves, as I have promised to keep you informed.
If you do not know what I speak about, check this journal, please!

Poor wolves are ill :( Photos (but with warning)Hi,
today it was the worst ZOO visit ever.
This spring I noticed that the molting (process of loosing the thick winter fur and having just much shorter summer fur) of the wolves is very different from the molting I witnessed during the last years. The wolves looked ill, like having scabs on their faces and bodies.
It made me nervous, so I was curious about my today's visit. I planned to shoot baby wolves.
What I saw shocked me.
ALL the pack members seem to have some skin problems. Less or more serious, all of them are effected, showing symptoms. I do not know if it is mange or so, but it looks horrible. Two wolves (and I am VERY afraid the most ill one is Atila) have almost bare bodies, they lost almost all the fur. All of them keep scratching. What a horrible, horrible sight, I almost cried there :( even the tiny puppy is ill, it was born just few weeks ago, but I see its legs show the signs of the same illness.
I hope the vets will find the cure.
I am soooo down since I saw them toda

Two ZOO Brno's employees answered my question about wolves and one of them was a zoologist, so I think we can consider that reply trustworthy.

So: as you probably already know, my beloved Atila, famous alpha wolf from ZOO Brno, died. He died of old age (10 years). His death is the cause of the current bad state of other wolves. The death of the alpha is followed with a lot of stress, as the hierarchy of the pack is completely crushed and in terrible mess.
The ZOO repeatedly applied tests, trying to find the exact cause of the problems of the wolves, but the tests excluded any illness, fungus or any parasite.

The wolves suffer from Dermatitis. The cause is psycho-somatic.

The ZOO tried to help them, dealing with the situation for several weeks. Now there is the only option left.
The total change of the pack.
The curators now deal with other ZOOs, trying to find a new home for Brno's wolves.
Only Alex, Clair (both were partners of Atila, those three wolves are the founders of the Brno's pack) will stay in ZOO Brno with two puppies born in 2013. But they will be kept behind the scenes or simply in other exhibit.

The wolf exhibit will completely cleaned and also adjusted (I think they will fix and refill the lake).
Then the new male wolf, the founder of the new pack, will arrive.
It might take weeks or months.
I do not even know if the ZOO is going to keep arctic wolves again.

What I know is that my beloved wolves are leaving and I will the most likely never see them again.
It is very hard to say goodbye.
Goodbye, wolves. You teached me a lot about your species, in fact YOU made me love your species in general. You allowed me to witness many special moments of your lives and I will never forget it. Thank you for those hours I could spend with you. Thank you that I could amuse and educate people through the photos of you.
Thank you...

Some memories...

Alex and Clair (sisters born in 2003, ZOO Amnevile, France), soon after they arrived to ZOO Brno.

Atila joined them soon. He was born in ZOO Sosto, Hungary, in 2003.

The first photo of them together...

The first puppies, born in 2008. Male and a female...

Wonderful autumn of that year... The wolves were young, happy and so „fresh"...

A happy wolf means a curious wolf. They came so close to you... I remember how I could not breath when I was alone in the ZOO and this puppy, who had been always so shy, came very close to me to have a look. Such a special moment.

Although it is unnusual, next year, both alpha and beta female gave a birth. An accident divided alpha from her pups, beta used her chance and killed them all. The pack raised her pups.

In 2010, both females gave birth again, but this time they care for the puppies together in harmony and all the babies survived... The same situation was repeated next year.

Atila and a puppy.

I will always  you, Brno's wolves

It was hard to say „bye" to Atila, now I am „losing" whole the pack I loved.
I think you will miss them too, right? :(
I did my best to bring you news about their lives and so, I hope you already know them :(

(Hm, some papers comment that new male might be the change, while the old females would stay, forming a new pack with him. But I do not believe it. Females are old (already 8 years) and very "used" after many puppies... so I do not think the male wolf will the the only change.

This makes me feel sad :( Isn't there a way for you to at least learn where they will  deport the rest of the pack? So you could visit them at least some time in the future? ...
