Is anybody here? + news + ZOO animals - PHOTOS.

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 2, 2012, 5:14 PM

Hi!

Ok, ok, ok, I am almost scared - what happaned? It seems that this site is totally empty for last week! :O_o:
I wonder what caused this: Sandy? Or do Americans have some Halloween holiday so they are not online? Or... is there some secret and slow Zombie attack? :noes:

Of course dA decided to use this time to announce free shipping :XD: usually they do it before Christmas and I usually get pretty nice money from it. This time I got just few dolars, so I hope dA will repeat the action - just before X-mas as they did the last year. Because this site really seems to be empty now! :noes: as a response to a free shipping, I released Free calendar for 2013 - I think I have never had so few faves, views and downloads on it. What a pity, what a bad time :(

I know about Sandy, it was covered by Czech media a lot :(
Poor people, I hope everything will be fixed as soon as possible. I did not know it affected so many people :(

You also know I asked you to vote for Allerlei's photo - thank you for doing that, she is now on the first place with great number of "likes"! :aww: I wanted to take my part in the contest too, because the 12 chosen photos were to be printed in a calender, which would be then sold and earned money would be used for contruction of brand new wolf habitat. But the ZOO made a mistake and forgot to add my photos into the collection of participiants - it is not a big deal, they apologized and seemed to be very sorry about that so it is fine. I told them to have no hard feeling about it, mistakes happen ;) I wanted to use this photo (fav.me/d4gaa9p). I had to say my first idea was that they did not want to include my photo because it is everywhere on the web, so I was about to hate all those art-thieves even more :XD:

What makes me a bit happy? I am probably out of annoying 77,5 - 79,5 Kg cycle and I started losing weight again. I really needed to see that "76,something" to be aware of some progress. It is a nice kick and I am now totally good girl, as I am trying to reach "75,something" as soon as possible ;) hurray!

Also, me and my sis decided to use and eat more seasonal stuff. It is autumn now, so it means... PUMPKIN TIME! You from USA probably do not get my surprise, but I would not say that many Czechw know and use this vegetable often. We also do not celebrate Halloween (11/2 we have "All souls day" which is much more silent and spiritual than American Halloween. We just go to cemeteries and lit candles on graves of our beloved...), so pumpkin is not that popular. But it is amazing vegetable - full of vitamines and many many healthy things, you can use it to prepare almost everything (desert, soup, main food, side dish...). It is also very filling, but it gives you almost no calories! Simply a miracle food.

I would like to share a recipe for fantastic, easy and pretty delicious soup :-)
You need:

One pumpkin (without skin and without seeds) - some 600g
1,5 big onion
2 carrots
bouillon cube
1 liter of hot water
1 table spoon of olive oil
rosemary
1 tea spoon of ginger
Salt
Pepper

Put olive oil into the pot, cut an onion into bigger pieces and as soon as the oil is hot, put the onion into the pot too. Stir. Soon add also carrots and pumpkin, both also cut into pieces. Stir and let it fry (it is not the best word, because there is only one spoon of oil) for few minutes. Do not forget to stir it ;) In the meantime, use a jug kelltle to get approximately one litre of boiling water. Then put it on the vegetable into a pot - the water level should be some 1-2 cm above the vegetable. Add salt and pepper and also a bouillon cube. Let it boil only for some 15-20 minutes. After you test a piece of pumpkin and it is not tough anymore, just add a tea spoon of ginger and few pieces of fresh resemary. Put the pot away from the flame and let it cool down a bit. Then use a blender to mix it properly - the soup will be creamy. It is incredibly tasty, filling soup, which is very healthy and gives you no calories. It is also so easy to make, it takes you only 30 minutes from the start to the end of mixing, when you can immediately start eating. And you will look like a king, because the soup looks and tastes very luxourious ;) As I say - a miracle ;)

I am still here and still enjoying your photographs. HOwever, the last two weeks have been extremely busy for me. Yes, I do celebrate Halloween as a religious holiday called Samhain. (I can't remember if you know of the spirituality I take part in). Anyway, I put together a Pagan ritual to honor those who have passed and honor the Dark Goddess and God which involved a lot of writing and collecting of items for the altars.

I am not on the East coast...in fact, we are in Arizona. So, the only impact that we have felt so far about Sandy is that we are greatly saddened by the loss of life and property.

Oh my gosh, Woxy! I tried the soup (I used broth instead of water and a bouillon cube, though). That is delicious! The pumpkin absorbs all the other flavors and it is simply delightful. :) Thanks for sharing it.

Yeah, Sandy's causing a lot of problems for people in that area :( I'd imagine there will be a repeat of the free shipping weekend, once things have settled down and people have had time to rebuild their lives a bit.
But, on a lighter note, that soup recipe sounds amazing and delicious :D I think the word you'd want to use instead of "fry" would be "sauté" as it uses a very little bit of oil to cook the food :) any idea what someone could use if they don't like/have rosemary?

A lot of people lost power form Hurricane Sandy so that could have been it. Thankfully I only lost power for like 10 secs. And also, Halloween is usually celebrated in america by dressing up and going door to door while people give out candy, its very fun. ^^

Hello there! Your zoo photos just lifted my spirits. I am guessing that Sandy left many dA members (like me) on the eastern U.S. coast high and dry. I was without electricity, phone service, internet access or heat since Monday. I finally had everything restored last night. There is a big mess to clean up and a gasoline shortage--I've been walking everywhere! Thanks for your kind concern!

we just had halloween and thanks giving is sometime this month, normally everyone does halloween but some towns were moved over, not to mention bigger citires like NY got flooded and fired out. As well as some people in Marylan and up, they got pounds of snow that caushed whipe outs of power for days and maybe a weak, and were all trying to recover from the big storm

I'm here - now. It took several days for me to get power restored - other areas are completely devastated almost as if they were not there to begin with. Halloween for our area has been postponed until next week and ironically we are expected to have yet another nor'easter! I don't know where your fan base hails from but where I am, there are still people without power being on the windward side of the storm. However, Halloween isn't a huge holiday like Thanksgiving. I can only imagine that there are many people without power or who are out trying to help those still in need.

I'm still here. :) We weren't hit by Sandy that bad here in Stoney Creek Ontario. A lot of rain for over a week, but we didn't have any power outs or anything. But there are some in Ontario who are still out of power I think, at least they were a day or so ago.

Your Pumpkin soup recipe sounds interesting. I have a nice pumpkin sitting out on our deck that I may have to use to try this. We usually roast the seeds too. Yummy!

Naw, probably Hurricane Sandy, I'm on the west coast so I'm good, but the east is having trouble getting their power back online.

yeah halloween and thanksgiving (for US i think?). over where i am...most people spend halloween in a drunken haze for a week....yay university <_<
and then Hurricane Sandy.. that hurricane had a very large area cover...so it effected most of the east coast of the states and canada i think...my area got a bit of the wind and some rain but nothing significant at all....

I think it's just Sandy, although DA has been having more glitches than usual lately (or at least, it seems like that to me) so that might contribute to it some too.

Halloween wouldn't cut back on internet usage by Americans. But the majority of our population is on the eastern coast, so it makes sense that Sandy would have knocked out a majority of their power and internet access. Don't worry though, things will get better! :)

I think it's mostly Sandy; a ton of states and cities have the power shut down, plus the storm makes it nearly impossible for wifi or phone connection because of bad service.

I think Sandy and Halloween both, I live in America but I wasn't effected, thankfully, I know Halloween is a huge deal here though (it certainly is for me) but as for why people would be gone all week it's probbably Sandy, I haven't noticed that there was too much less activity than normal but maybe I'm just unobservant... anyway, things are starting to get back into shape here, TV shows that were broadcast near where Sandy hit are coming back on air live now, some started yesterday, and I hear that electricity is starting to slowly but surely come back too, so if this was in fact part of Sandy then you should see it start going back to normal any time now :) Atleast in my opinion

Sadly it was from the Hurricane.
A lot of people are still without power and internet so I hope everyone who was hit is okay.

But no worries, I plan to buy from you for Christmas. ;)
And I bought that mug! Thanks so much again for doing that for me. ^^

There are a lot of people without power. Some people are saying it's going to last as long as ten days in some areas before the power is back!
Luckily it didn't hit Canada nearly as badly. A lot of people lost power, but at least in my area it's all back now.

The emptiness has concerned me as well. I wrote a journal, and got no comments. Which is odd, I always get a view comments from my watchers, or at least they all see it. Yet it seems they didn't. Though there is still power out from Sandy, and many people may be recovering from halloween festivities.

A number of people still don't have power from Sandy. Just in my neighborhood about 600,960 (or was it just 11 I'm not sure) trees fell down. Got my power back only two days ago. >.<
