Eurasian wolves from ZOO Prague, Czech republic :D they are all young males, sons of Lobo and Boja, the alphas. Between two of them is probably omega wolf, who was attacked many times and his face is covered with blood :(

More wolfish photos (MUCH better quality!) here - [link]

Wolfish photos I am quite satisfied with: :blushes:

I hate explaining it, because I love wolves so much... but if that's the 'designated' Omega wolf, then that is the "nature" of the wolf pack, being carried. The fact that he died (as you said in one of the replies) is tragic, but that's how wolf packs work. There's an Alpha, at the top, and an Omega at the way bottom. It's been proven that Omega's are actually just as important to a wolf pack, as an Alpha is... but they kinda get the short 'straw', if you know what I mean. Their job in the pack, is literally to absord the anger, irritation, tension, and aggression of the other pack members. It drastically diminishes fights and aggression within the rest of the pack. I personally don't agree with it at all... I think it's just soo wrong, and sad:( But, I'm human. Not a wolf, in a wolf pack (I wish). And look at it this way: If someone were to pull Omega's out of various different packs, and put them into their own pack, in a hopes of them not being hurt/bullied/abused anymore... that little 'Omega' pack will develope(sp?) it's own structure. With an Alpha at the top, and Omega at the bottom. And all those wolves, who were once Omegas themselves, will then pick on and hurt, that designated Omega. It's nature. Not always right, but it is the way it is, because it works.

Nature has its own way of dealing with things. When animals fight they fight, to protect, or defend themselves. Many people think wolves are cruel when actually its just a part of life. Animals don't know what cruelty is, humans do unfortunately

Depends whether or not Omega there keeps trying to hit on an Alpha or not! Does seem to be walking in between them rather than keeping behind...

Some critters just don't take the hint. We have a cat, Akio, and he adores our older male cat, who thinks Akio is trying to be dominant when actually Akio just loves our oldest cat to bits, follows him around and copies him, purring.

Play behaviour is similar to attack behaviour among carnivores anyway, there have to be some who can't tell the difference.

Nature it's never "Cruel", cruelty it's a human prerogative.
