Satu, female Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae, tygr sumatersky) from ZOO Brno, Czech republic

Story of the photo: wohoo, what an amazing sight. Satu the female and Dua the male were together in one exhibit. Satu was lying, while Dua was pacing through the enclosure - everytime he got close to Satu, she got this aggressive expression. Not only she was snarling at him, she even jumped and attacked him. Finally poor Dua got to be trapped between angry Satu, exhibit's wall and the lake. He was so scared to pass near Satu, that he finally decided to jump into the pool to escape

Name: Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae)
Location: Sumatra
Size: 1,8 m long body + 0,8 m tail, 0,9 m high weight: 180 kg
Diet: deers, boars, elks, birds, tapirs
Conservation status: Critically Endangered
Interesting facts: Sumatran tigers do not live in groups. Every tiger has its own territory and cats meet only to mate. Only female then take care of 2-4 kittens. Father does not look after his babies. Other males can kill the cubs, so mother must be very careful and she looks for her cubs until they are 2 years old | Sumatran tiger is the smallestt of all tiger subspecies | there are only some 400 - 600 Sumatran tigers living in the wild | Sumatran tigers swim very well and fast | they are threatened by hunters who kill them for their amazing wonderful fur
