Haldir, white African lion (Panthera leo krugeri, lev africky - bila forma) from ZOO Bratislava, Slovakia :D there are only few white lions, so this one is real rarity! They are not albinos, only freaks of nature, as white tigers. White color is caused by a recessive gene known as chinchilla or color inhibitor... :D


EDITED 11/10/2009: right white balance removed stupid green tones :lol:

I have to ask you, in your other photo you said that white tigers weren't albinos, because if they were they would have red eyes. Since the white lions in the photo doesn't have red eyes, it's possible that they may be result of..you know..the same reason than the white tigers??

I'll love you forever if you answer me that :D

they are also a result recessive gen, but I think the situation with them is less severe :nod:
for example I know about a white lion who was born to totally brown parents :D
