FUR ON YOUR BACK IS BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS!
____________

INFO ABOUT THE ANIMAL:

Name: Red fox (vulpes vulpes)
Location: red fox is native to North America, whole Europe, whole Asia, north Africa and it was introduced to Australia
Size: 100 cm long body + 45 cm long tail, 40 cm high weight: 12 kg
Diet: red foxes are omnivorous and are highly opportunistic, so they eat almost everything from small insects to cranes. Red foxes hunt insects, worms, fish, birds, mice, rabbits, crayfish, baby deers. But they eat also fruit (apples, blackberries...) and plants.
Conservation status: Least Concern (the most common carnivora)
Interesting facts: red fox can hide its food to find it later | usually five cubs are born blind and helpless in the burrow | foxes have many colour variations: usually – ginger-red, but also black or silver, Unfortunately, red fox is kept by fur farms and some ----- torture them just to gain their fur. Red foxes are also hunted by so called ,,sportmen“ | red foxes suffer from rabies | red fox is considered to be vermit | red foxes produce pretty weird sounds XD | foxes in the wild live only some 4 years, but they can reach 12 years in captivity
Enemies: golden eagles, gray wolves, cougars, lynxes, coyotes, badgers, wolverines
Legend: foxes play important role in many myths and legend. Due their inteligence, they have become symbol of slyness and cunning. They are also very popular animals, who have role in many fairy tales. In the Czech republic, author Rudolf Tesnohlidek wrote very famous book about very clever hand-rised vixen called Bystrouska. I loved that book and also it funny happy end!

I am not 100% sure, but probably yes, because it is silver variant or vulpes vulpes, who can be black, silver or ginger :D

Excellent shot of a gorgeous fox! And those eyes look far more startling on the black version of a red fox than on the more typical red foxes.

Foxes are awesome! but what kind of sounds do they make? =o Could you describe it? or make it yourself? XD
Reply
:iconwoxys:

they bark, whine and produce other scale of very strange sounds :D I am pretty sure that all those legends about weird forest creatures and mysterious spooks have their origins in people, who walked through forest in the night and they heard the sounds of red foxes XD because believe me, their voices ARE scary! :D

but red foxes can not be even compared to the vocalisation of polar foxes!

Ghehe the only legend I know that relates to foxes is the japanese version consurning the Kitsune. Supposedly an spirt or demon that often tricks humans but in other stories is portrayed as a gaurdian. Once they get older they get more tails, more power and much more cunning. In some cases they even gain the ability to partially shapshift into humans, remaining either their tail or ears in their humanform. Though I have been unable to find any legends or myths relating fox from my own culture :( So I am curious how did you come to know about the legends in your country? =o

You might want to have a look at the Reynard Cycle [link] a collection of medieval tales about an anthropomorphic fox called Reynard, or Reineke, who is a trickster, willfully endangers others' lives and gets away with it by telling made up stories and lies which in turn causes the ones he told the story to turn against each other.
So, basically european foxes are assholes.

for example, in the Czech republic, there is a famous story for kids - about a baby boy called Budulinek, who is rised by his grandparents. They need to go to buy some things in the city, so they let their grandson in the house alone, telling him, that he is now allowed to open to door and let strangers in :D but as soon as they leave, vixen came and she knocks on the door, saying "Budulinek, give me peas, I will allow you to have a ride on my tail!" Baby boy opens the door and vixen kidnappes him, bringing him to her burrow, where Budulinek serves as a toy for her baby foxes. When grandparents come home, they find only empty house. They cry a lot, but then grandfather gets an idea! He takes the violin, get close to the fox burrow and starts plying and singing "There is a fox burrow with little foxes and Budulinek is with them!" Foxes become curious and one by one, they leave the burrow - only to be caught in the sack! Grandfather then saves Budulinek, who comes back home! And the foxes? Granfather takes a stick, he beats the sacks with foxes and then he released them, so they freely escape to the forest :D

Yeah, definitely. That reminds me of the case of the hairless bears in Germany [link] . They almost look like some otherworldly beings. :)
And now imagine walking through the forest, hearing a fox scream in the distance and seeing this bear afterwards. A new legend is born! :D
